Frequently Asked Questions.

Why soy wax?

Soy wax is a vegetable wax made from the oil of soybeans. It is 100% natural, renewable, non-toxic and biodegradable. Soy wax is a softer wax that has a lower melting point. Because of this, it also burns longer and at a cooler temperature than paraffin wax. A soy candle also holds onto the fragrance better and because they burn slower, the fragrance is gradually released. This creates a more pleasant and natural atmosphere.

Why Wooden Wicks?
We use wood wicks because not only do they burn slower, giving you more life out of your candle, but they make a gentle crackling sound when they burn.
The wood wick delivers a flame slightly larger than cotton wicks, however, if trimmed properly, a wood wick creates a cleaner burn with less soot residue on the sides of the jar. Wood wicks, together with the lovely fragrances released by your candle, create a beautiful ambience within your home.
What type of fragrances do you use?

The fragrance oils we choose to use are a high quality, boutique line of cosmetic grade oils. They are synthetic in substance as in they  are not formulated directly from plant origin although they do still contain a high percentage of essential oils. We find that fragrance oils work much better in soy wax candles than essential oils because they have been specially designed for candles and therefore hold their fragrance longer.

How do I care for my new Candle?
  • When you first light your candle, allow the candle to create a full and even wax pool across the entire candle before you blow it out. This is to avoid a memory tunnel developing in the wax.
  • Before relighting your Divine Wicks candle crinkle your woodwick to 1/4 inch in length.
  • To get maximum life out of your Divine Wicks candle, we recommend you do not burn it for more than 4 hours at a time.
  • If your glass has got soot around the edge (because you haven’t trimmed your wick- tut tut), use a paper towel to gently wipe it off. Your candle will look as good as new.
  • Do not touch a burning candle or move a candle when the wax is liquid
  • Do not burn your candle right down to the bottom of the jar. Discontinue burning when 10mm/1cm of wax remains in the bottom.
  • Do not leave a candle burning unattended and keep away from small children, curtains and pets.
  • Do not burn a candle on or near anything that can catch on fire.
  • Avoid drafts and always burn your candle on a heat resistant surface.
Once you have completely finished burning your candle, wash the jar out with soap and warm water and now you can repurpose your jar.
